Why is my item showing as "not recognised"?

An amber "not recognised" message means we can't identify the barcode, so we can't make an offer on the item. The most common cause is a price or shop sticker covering the original barcode: peel it back, or type the ISBN in by hand.

It can also happen if you scan a single item from a box set, which is priced as the complete set, so scan the barcode on the box instead. Items marked "not for resale", such as proof or review copies, won't be recognised and shouldn't be sent.

Anything that isn't a book, CD, DVD or game won't be recognised either. Some very old, non-English or small-print-run editions aren't in our catalogue yet.

If you're sure an item should be recognised and it keeps showing amber, send the ISBN to pro@worldofbooks.com
